Khorfakkan: The fifth edition of the Mango Festival is set to commence on Friday, 26 June, at Expo Khorfakkan, showcasing a wide array of mango varieties directly sourced from local farms in Sharjah's Eastern Region. Held under the theme 'Mango: Our Fruit, Our Wealth,' the festival runs for three days and is organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in collaboration with the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan, Khorfakkan City Municipality, and Expo Khorfakkan, with support from the Government of Sharjah.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Mango Festival celebrates the Eastern Region's agricultural prowess, serving as an agri-tourism and economic platform to display the region's fruit production. It provides marketing opportunities for farm owners, local producers, and productive families, promoting Sharjah's sustainable development goals and stimulating commercial activity. This year's festival aims to further establish Khorfakkan as a prominent agricultural hub, supporting local farmers and enhancing the competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
The festival will feature five main competitions, offering cash prizes to winners in all categories. Events kick off with the 'Mango Mazayna' contest, the Largest Mango contest, and the Most Beautiful Mango Basket Competition for families. Khalil Mohammed Al Mansouri, Director of Government Relations at the Sharjah Chamber, emphasized that the festival offers an excellent platform for farmers to expand market access and boost revenues, while also enhancing the region's tourism appeal.
Al Mansouri highlighted that the festival supports the National Food Security Strategy 2051 objectives and reinforces the sustainability of the agricultural sector as a fundamental component of food security and the national economy. Visitors can also engage in educational and awareness programs, participate in workshops on modern agricultural practices, and enjoy a variety of cultural and heritage activities, traditional performances, and daily competitions, which aim to enhance visitor engagement and knowledge transfer.
