Abu dhabi: The Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity and the Gates Foundation are set to jointly host the Goalkeepers event in Abu Dhabi on 8th December 2025. This event is a gathering of global partners committed to achieving the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
According to Emirates News Agency, the event, known as Goalkeepers Abu Dhabi, will bring together changemakers who are developing new ideas and leading innovative work to accelerate progress towards the Global Goals. This marks the first time the event will be held in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Dr. Shamma Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Acting Director-General of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, expressed that Goalkeepers Abu Dhabi is an opportunity to celebrate human potential and highlight initiatives aimed at improving lives on a large scale. She noted that the event reflects the Foundation's dedication to investing in human potential and the UAE's leadership in fostering a healthier and brighter future.
Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, shared his excitement about bringing Goalkeepers to Abu Dhabi. He emphasized the partnership with the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, praising their commitment to improving mothers' and children's health and combating infectious diseases. Gates highlighted the aim to accelerate progress on some of the world's pressing challenges.
Goalkeepers, founded by the Gates Foundation in 2017, serves as a platform to inspire progress towards the Global Goals set by the United Nations in 2015. These goals address a range of areas such as poverty, health, hunger, and education, with a vision of building a better world by 2030.
The event includes an annual report, a yearly awards program, and the gathering of a global community championing the Global Goals. Traditionally hosted in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, Goalkeepers features live performances, storytelling, and discussions. It has hosted speakers such as President Emmanuel Macron, Queen Rania, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, and artists Ed Sheeran and Bono, providing a platform for networking and partnership development.
