Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated 'Al Shera'a,' the new headquarters of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in Al Jaddaf. The building is noted as the world's tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive government building, showcasing Dubai's commitment to sustainability and innovation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that Dubai has transitioned sustainability from a strategic goal to an everyday theme affecting all societal aspects. The inauguration of 'Al Shera'a' reflects Dubai's global leadership in resource conservation and renewable energy transition. Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the importance of investing in minds, talents, and infrastructure to reinforce UAE and Dubai's global leadership.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the team's efforts in realizing the project, indicating that each achievement should serve as a launchpad for further excellence and innovation. He was accompanied by notable figures, including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, among others.
During the event, Majid Hamad Rahma Al Shamsi, Chairman of DEWA's Board, and Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, welcomed Sheikh Mohammed. He toured an exhibition showcasing DEWA's history and achievements before proceeding to the main hall, where Al Tayer described Al Shera'a's innovative sustainable building concepts.
Al Shera'a introduces a cognitive system that uses Internet of Things technologies, big data analytics, and AI, making it the smartest government building globally. The building features over 110,000 smart sensors, 1,500 wireless access points, and more than 3,200 network devices to enhance operational efficiency.
Al Tayer stated that Al Shera'a embodies Sheikh Mohammed's vision to anticipate the future through innovation and AI technologies. The building aims to set a global benchmark for net-positive buildings, supporting the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
The building's AI-powered 'Al Shera'a' smart app integrates approximately 100 independent systems, enhancing employee wellbeing and operational efficiency. Its electricity generation capacity is 5 MW, supported by photovoltaic panels and robotic systems for maintenance.
Al Shera'a's architecture combines traditional Emirati design with modern innovation, achieving LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certifications. It includes various facilities to enhance employee happiness and wellbeing, creating a future-ready workplace through intelligent design.
