RTA’s Smart Monitoring System Yields Significant Results in Driving School Supervision

Dubai: The Smart Monitoring System introduced by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to supervise driving school vehicles through the use of AI-powered cameras has shown significant results in monitoring the conduct of instructors and trainees.

According to Emirates News Agency, the system, developed by the Licensing Activities Monitoring Department at RTA's Licensing Agency, has managed to oversee 1,734,790 training sessions for 245,764 trainees over the past seven months. This marks a 14-fold increase compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. These results highlight RTA's ongoing commitment to achieving its vision of becoming a global leader in seamless and sustainable mobility, as well as its dedication to digital transformation and innovation in monitoring practices.

The system, operated by RTA's Licensing Intelligent Operations Centre and supported by inspectors using smart tablets, has dramatically reduced inspection times from 20 minutes to just one minute. Additionally, it has enabled a fivefold increase in the recording of violations, establishing itself as a comprehensive tool that enhances the quality of training services and maintains high safety standards.

Equipped with smart cameras installed in driving school vehicles, the system allows for real-time, continuous monitoring of instructors and trainees. These cameras utilize artificial intelligence, including machine learning and computer vision, to improve the effectiveness of supervision during training sessions. The system automatically identifies violations such as mobile phone usage, failure to fasten seat belts, leaving designated training zones, not wearing the prescribed uniform, and other distractions like eating, drinking, or sleeping while driving.

This Smart Monitoring System represents a fundamental shift in the approach to field monitoring, aligning with Dubai's strategic direction towards digital innovation. It fosters a safe and professional training environment, preparing drivers to meet the highest standards.

Planned enhancements for the system include the introduction of predictive analytics and the integration of actual instructor performance data with licensing and permit systems. These improvements are intended to create a more robust and integrated monitoring framework.

Companies are crucial in adhering to regulations and ensuring a safe working environment. RTA works closely with strategic partners to provide safe and reliable training services, acknowledging the importance of compliance with safety standards. The new system offers an opportunity to increase awareness of regulatory adherence, supporting enhanced performance and alignment with required standards across all training institutes.
