Trkiye Evacuates Over 50,000 Amid Forest Fires Impacting Multiple Provinces

Izmir: Trkiye has evacuated more than 50,000 people from regions affected by forest fires across the country, with the western province of Izmir accounting for the majority of evacuations, the country's disaster agency said. Fires have swept through parts of Izmir, Bilecik, Hatay, Sakarya, and Manisa provinces, prompting authorities to relocate residents from 41 different settlements to temporary safe zones.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported the extensive effort to manage the crisis. The fires have prompted a significant response from emergency teams, as they strive to protect residents and minimize damage.

Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli highlighted the challenging conditions the response teams face. He noted that strong winds, reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph (25-30 mph), have exacerbated the situation in the Kuyucak and Doganbey areas of Izmir.

Over the past three days, emergency teams have tackled 263 wildfires nationwide. During a press briefing in Izmir, Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli provided updates on the ongoing efforts to control the fires. He also mentioned the extensive deployment of resources, including helicopters, fire-extinguishing aircraft, and more than 1,000 personnel, all dedicated to combating the blazes.

Later, the AFAD disaster agency announced on X that over 50,000 citizens from 41 settlements have been temporarily relocated to safe areas, with most of the evacuations occurring near the western resort of Izmir. The efforts to manage the crisis continue as authorities strive to safeguard affected communities.
