UAE and European Parliament Explore Enhanced Parliamentary Cooperation

Strasbourg: Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council (FNC), held a meeting with Hana Jalloul Muro, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) in the European Parliament, at the European Parliament headquarters in Strasbourg, France. The meeting was also attended by Sara Falaknaz, an FNC member.

According to Emirates News Agency, the discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the FNC and the European Parliament. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and collaboration with various parliamentary committees within the European Parliament to support parliamentary dialogue and exchange views on mutual interests.

Dr. Al Nuaimi reiterated the UAE's commitment to enhancing strategic partnerships with European Union member states. He noted ongoing efforts to finalize a Free Trade Agreement and a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the EU, aiming to support shared economic interests and broaden cooperation across key sectors.

He further highlighted the UAE's regional and global economic position, its balanced international relations, and its strategic location that links the East and West. He mentioned the UAE's advanced projects in ports, logistics, global trade, and aviation, which have positioned it as a significant global economic hub.

The meeting also reviewed opportunities to boost economic and investment cooperation between the UAE and EU countries, considering the UAE's favorable investment environment, modern infrastructure, and competitive economic climate.

Discussions extended to cooperation in new economy sectors, energy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, food security, and advanced technology. Additionally, regional and international developments were addressed, with Dr. Al Nuaimi stressing the importance of maintaining regional security and stability. He highlighted concerns about Iranian actions against the UAE and Gulf states, noting threats to international maritime security and global energy supplies with potential negative impacts on the global economy and peace.
