Abu Dhabi:The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team concluded its participation in the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 with a historic achievement, securing eight medals overall, including a record-breaking five golds, two silvers, and one bronze.
According to Emirates News Agency, the team's remarkable performance highlights the UAE's growing prowess in jiu-jitsu, underscoring the successful efforts of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation to foster international-caliber athletes. The gold medal winners were Balqees Alhashmi in the women's 48kg category, Khaled Al Shehhi in men's 62kg, Ahmed Andeez in men's 69kg, Mahdi Al Awlaqi in men's 77kg, and Asma Alhosani in women's 52kg. Al Anoud Al Harbi and Omar Al Suwaidi secured silver medals, while Amaar Alhosani took home a bronze.
The UAE's jiu-jitsu achievements at the Asian Games have progressed over the years, with two golds in Jakarta 2018, four in Hangzhou 2023, and a record five in Aichi-Nagoya 2026, reflecting the country's ongoing investment and preparation in the sport.
The final day of competition was attended by key figures such as Shihab Ahmed Mohamed Abdulrahim AlFaheem, the UAE Ambassador to Japan, and leaders of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation. They commended the athletes and attributed the success to the leadership of Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, who holds prominent positions within the jiu-jitsu community.
Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the Federation, emphasized the strategic planning and dedication behind the team's achievements, expressing gratitude to the nation's leadership and the support structures in place. The commitment to excellence was echoed by Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, a board member, who highlighted the comprehensive preparation program and the collaborative effort of athletes, coaches, and support staff.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Federation, praised the organization of the jiu-jitsu competition and noted the sport's increasing significance within the Asian Games since its introduction in 2018.
Athletes such as Khaled Al Shehhi and Al Anoud Al Harbi expressed their pride and future ambitions, with Al Shehhi dedicating his victory to the UAE's leadership and expressing his desire to continue achieving success. Al Harbi, after winning silver, voiced her determination to aim for gold in future competitions, contributing to the UAE's growing legacy in the sport.
