UAE Space Agency Partners with NYU Abu Dhabi for Mars Mission Research Support

Abu dhabi: The UAE Space Agency and New York University Abu Dhabi have signed a sponsorship agreement to bolster the research project "Studies of the Martian Atmosphere and Surface with the Emirates Mars Mission." This collaboration marks a significant milestone in utilizing the mission's scientific data to advance Martian studies.

According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement underscores the Agency's commitment to fostering advanced scientific research in planetary and space sciences. The signing ceremony was attended by key figures including Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency; Fabio Piano, Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi; and Marta Losada, Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Research and Senior Vice Provost for Research at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Al Qubaisi emphasized that the agreement is a testament to the UAE's dedication to progressing scientific research in space exploration. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the scientific data from the Emirates Mars Mission to contribute to global knowledge, particularly as the mission extends through 2028. This partnership aims to enhance understanding of the Martian atmosphere and foster a sustainable space ecosystem driven by innovation and research.

Fabio Piano remarked on the shared commitment between the UAE Space Agency and NYU Abu Dhabi to advance scientific discovery. He noted that the support from this agreement will strengthen the efforts of NYU Abu Dhabi's Centre for Astrophysics and Space Science, utilizing the Emirates Mars Mission's data to support the UAE's vision for space exploration and scientific innovation.

The agreement specifically aims to support the ongoing research project, enabling further utilization of the mission's data in developing Mars-related research. Additionally, it aligns with the objectives of the UAE Space Agency and the National Space Strategy 2031, which focuses on advancing the science, technology, and innovation ecosystem, and reinforcing the UAE's regional and global position in the space sector.

This partnership highlights national efforts to cultivate academic and scientific collaboration, leveraging the outcomes of the UAE's space missions to support research and development.
