UAE to Host First Legislative Parliamentary Forum Focused on AI

Abu dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) will host the inaugural Legislative Parliamentary Forum on 7th October at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The forum will assemble representatives from the legislative councils of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, local authorities, legal and judicial bodies, academic institutions, and chief executives of artificial intelligence from across the country.

According to Emirates News Agency, this event marks a pioneering effort in parliamentary and legislative practices, setting the stage for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and the exchange of ideas to achieve optimal legislation. The approach is based on a methodological path that involves well-studied scientific and practical steps.

The forum will convene parliamentarians, experts, and constitutional scholars from various scientific and intellectual schools. The first edition will focus on reviewing and discussing the best legislative practices in artificial intelligence. The aim is to enhance regional and international cooperation in developing AI-related policies and legislation, highlight exemplary parliamentary and legislative practices, and address the challenges of implementing AI-related laws.

The event will commence with a welcome address by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the FNC, followed by remarks from Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC. Albudaiwi will emphasize the Council's collaborative efforts in AI governance and outline future mechanisms.

Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will then present a paper on international parliamentary cooperation in regulating artificial intelligence.
