Sheikh Saud Highlights Tourism as Key Pillar of UAE’s Economy and Sustainable Development

Ras al khaimah: H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, emphasized the critical role of the tourism sector in the national economy and its significant contribution to sustainable development, underpinned by the UAE's ambitious vision and advanced infrastructure, solidifying its place among top global tourism destinations.

According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Saud made these remarks during the Emirates Tourism Council meeting at the InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort, attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, and various senior officials and stakeholders from the tourism and hospitality industries.

Sheikh Saud highlighted the UAE's established position on the global tourism map under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, making it one of the world's most sought-after destinations. He pointed out that Ras Al Khaimah's tourism sector is central to the emirate's development strategy, aiming for sustainable growth through collaboration and expertise.

He further stated that Ras Al Khaimah's diversified tourism model contributes to economic growth, enhances quality of life, and increases its competitiveness and standing locally and globally. The emirate plans to continue leveraging its infrastructure and investments to bolster its tourism sector and GDP contribution.

Sheikh Saud also recognized the UAE's resilience in overcoming challenges, reinforced by wise leadership and social cohesion, which has allowed it to turn global changes into opportunities for development and competitiveness.

He underscored the necessity of ongoing collaboration between government entities and private sector partners to explore new opportunities and drive innovation in the tourism sector, ensuring its continued growth.

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, chairing the council sessions, outlined the national vision for the tourism sector's future, emphasizing the leadership's focus on economic growth and global competitiveness. He discussed partnerships with major tourism markets and efforts to provide unique tourism experiences aligned with the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031.

Al Marri also highlighted the positive performance of the hospitality sector in early 2026, with hotel occupancy rates reaching approximately 85% and revenues surpassing AED9.8 billion, marking a 17% increase from the previous year, illustrating robust demand and confidence in the UAE's tourism offerings.
